چکیده
In this study, the standardized precipitation index (SPI) data in Hunan Province from 1961 to 2020 is adopted. Based on critical slowing down theory, moving t-test firstly used determine time of drought-flood state transition Dongting Lake basin. Afterwards, by means variance and autocorrelation coefficient that characterize phenomenon down, early-warning signals indicating basin are explored. The results show an obvious drought-to-flood (flood-to-drought) event occurred around 1993 (2003) recent 60 years. phenomena increases coefficient, which detected 5–10 years advance, can be considered as transition. Through studies related for basin, reliabilities coefficient-based abrupt changes demonstrated. It expected wide application method could provide important scientific technological support disaster prevention mitigation even middle lower reaches Yangtze River.

About 17% of humanity goes through an episode of major depression at some point in their lifetime. Despite the enormous societal costs of this incapacitating disorder, it is largely unknown how the likelihood of falling into a depressive episode can be assessed. Here, we show for a large group of healthy individuals and patients that the probability of an upcoming shift between a depressed and ...

Tipping points are crossed when small changes in external conditions cause abrupt unexpected responses in the current state of a system. In the case of ecological communities under stress, the risk of approaching a tipping point is unknown, but its stakes are high. Here, we test recently developed critical slowing-down indicators as early-warning signals for detecting the proximity to a potenti...
متن کاملCritical slowing down near the smectic-A-hexatic-B transition
2014 We have performed high-resolution heat-capacity and thermal-conductivity investigations on the same sample in the vicinity of the smectic-A-hexatic-B transition of n-propyl-4’-nheptyloxybiphenyl-4-carboxylate (370BC). The thermal diffusivity shows a pronounced drop near the transition. This clearly demonstrates and confirms the critical slowing down of the thermal fluctuations observed in ...
